The best camera

Websites No Thoughts »

This post will not tell you if you should buy Nikon or Canon. http://thebestcamera.com/ is a site dedicated to photos taken by iPhones and uploaded to an online community. The idea comes from the fact that the best camera is the one that’s with you as opposed to having the greatest and latest piece of technology but leaving it at home and missing out on some great shots. The site is used in conjunction of an iPhone app called “Best camera” that allows you to edit your iPhone pics and then upload it to the site (or Facebook, Twitter and email).

The site is an idea from photographer Chase Jarvis. He also wrote a book called “The best camera is the one that’s with you” that regroups some of his own iPhone photos.

I was quite surprised with the quality of the images found on the site. There are some excellent shots on there and it’s worth a look. Check out my pics at http://bestc.am/photographers/12267

Dominican Republic – December 2009

Travel 1 Thought »

I had a few days of vacation (overtime) left over and decided to try the Dominican Republic for a change. We were lucky enough to be able to board the plane on standby (both outgoing and incoming flights) so this little 5 day trip cost next to nothing. The outbound flight itself was quite rough with a lot of turbulence but everything else went well. We stayed at the Casa Marina Beach & Reef hotel located 15 minutes from Puerto Plata airport.

Since it was the rainy season, we had a few moments of rain here and there but always in the morning. The rest of the day was filled with the warm rays of the sun. I found the weather quite pleasing and not as humid as Cuba. The food reminded me of what we had during our trips to Cuba but with a little bit more variety and brand names available (like Coke and Heinz). Keep reading this post. »

AF-S DX 35mm 1.8G sample shots

Hardware 2 Thoughts »

I was lucky enough to receive my Christmas gift very early this year. It just happens to be the Nikkor AF-S DX 35mm 1.8G lens. I chose this lens after a lot of research and hesitation between the 50mm version. I find it perfect for my needs since it’s wider than the 50mm and I prefer it this way. The DX crop factor on my D60 produces the equivalent of a full frame 52mm lens. I have not used it a lot but I have noticed the big difference between this f1.8 lens compared to the f3.5 kit lens. It’s quite faster and does allow me to get relatively better images in low light conditions. Keep reading this post. »

Hey!

Welcome to my place on the net. Feel free to take a look around, browse through my photos and let me know what you think. Most of the images are taken with a Nikon D60 or an iPhone. Speaking of which, the site will also automatically be rendered into an iPhone interface when viewed from such a device. Enjoy!
